It’s been about a month since I was in Ohio for my little brother’s graduation. While I was there, I was inspired to write a post about seeds and growth. The source of that inspiration was Baby Bear and [I think ?] Cookie Monster on Sesame Street which, by the way, remains ‘lit’ after all these decades. ha.
Baby Bear and Cookie Monster became privy to some small factoid about agriculture and took it upon themselves to grow cookie tree. Actually, I don’t know if it was Baby Bear and Telly or Baby Bear and Cookie Monster and if the story I’m telling is actually a conglomeration of two different segments.
At some point, Baby Bear and a friend are staring into a terra cotta pot at some seeds they’ve planted chanting loudly, “GROW! GROW! GROW!” Naturally I was like, dang this is a word from the Lord. ha.
It’s no secret to anyone that my heart has been working out the angst of its longings; that there have been moments and months when I have been as silly and impatient as Telly and Cookie Monster and Baby Bear. I see some small semblance of a seed sprout and take to fixation ~ as if by so doing, I can bear for it fruit.
Around the same time, my Sensei gave everyone in the office “air plants” as Spring Showcase merde gifts.
Mine is, apparently, the slowest to bloom, but incubates an intricate, purple flower. It’ll take a while, but it will be beautiful, she promised. Because I believe her, I faithfully soak my air plant in water for 10 minutes every week. Because I believe her, I soak it in the sun.
I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
So I concluded that there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God. Ecclesiastes 3:10-13
… I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from Me. Hosea 14:8
